Dr Salagianni Maria is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Clinical, Experimental Surgery and Translational Research of the Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens in Greece. She obtained her PhD in Immunology with a scholarship from Alexander S. Onassis Foundation at King’s College London in United Kingdom where she studied the role of CD8+ T cells in allergic responses at Prof. Mike D. Kemeny’s lab. She then did her first postdoctoral research at Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy Center (CIIC) in Athens, Greece on the role of IL-15 and hydrocortisone expanded NK cells in a murine lung cancer model. In 2007, she visited Prof. John D. Lambris lab at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in USA to study the role of complement in a murine kidney transplantation model in collaboration with CIIC. Her most recent post-doctoral work focuses on the role of interferons in atherosclerosis and metabolic related diseases in Dr. Evangelos Andreakos lab at the Biomedical Research Foundation Academy of Athens. She has published 26 papers in leading journals including Circulation and has received 2564 citations. Lastly, she is a member of the Hellenic Society for Immunology and a reviewer for peer-reviewed international scientific journals.
