Turnover on governing councils is vital to the health and growth of not-for-profit organizations, bringing fresh ideas, new perspectives, and expanded networks. It’s a best practice embraced by over 85% of nonprofit boards. Yet, as effective as it is, turnover is often bittersweet.
With this in mind, ICIS extends heartfelt gratitude to Prof. You-Me Kim, Ph.D., for her outstanding service on the Governing Council. Elected in 2022, Prof. Kim also served as Chairperson of the 2024 Cytokines Conference, co-hosted with the Korean Association of Immunology (KAI) in Seoul, Korea. Balancing these roles with remarkable professionalism and grace, she successfully led one of our most dynamic and well-attended conferences to date.
Reflecting on her experience, Prof. Kim credited the exceptional teamwork from KAI and the professional secretariat. Ever humble, she admitted, “I’ll have a few days off after the conference,” but her commitment to ICIS remains steadfast.
Although her term on the Council is ending, Prof. Kim’s contributions will continue. She has already accepted an invitation from ICIS President Sarah Gaffen to join the Awards Committee, where her expertise and extensive network will provide invaluable insights. Judi Allen, Co-Chair of the Awards Committee, remarked, “We’re thrilled to have You-Me’s knowledge and perspective. Her contributions will undoubtedly enhance our work.”
Thank you, Prof. Kim, for your dedication, leadership, and enduring impact on ICIS. Your service has strengthened our society, and we look forward to continuing to work together as we build an even brighter future.
