I am Lucas Mendes-Monteiro, a PhD student in virology based in Hannover, Germany. My research focuses on varicella-zoster virus (VZV) pathogenesis, particularly on how the viral glycoprotein C binds IFN-γ and shapes downstream gene expression. More broadly, I am interested in how viruses rewire cytokine signaling to promote infection and dissemination. Originally from Brazil, I have greatly enjoyed pursuing my scientific training in Germany within an international research environment. I joined ICIS because I am excited to connect with researchers interested in cytokine signaling, interferon biology, and antiviral immunity, and I am happy to become part of this community.
