The Cytokine Society Announces its 2026 Award Recipients

Four headshots of 2026 awardees

The Cytokine Society is proud to announce this year’s most prestigious honors. Christopher Hunter, Ph.D. (University of Pennsylvania) receives the 2026 ICIS–Pfizer Award for Excellence in Interferon and Cytokine Research – the Society’s highest honor – recognizing 35 years of landmark discoveries in IL-27 biology, host–parasite immunity, and cytokine-mediated immune regulation. Peter Murray, Ph.D. (Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry) receives the 2026 William E. Paul Award for pioneering the field of cytokine-controlled amino acid metabolism and its connection to ferroptosis resistance. Both will be recognized at the Opening Session of Cytokines 2026 in Glasgow on October 18th.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be recognized by a society that has connected me with so many outstanding colleagues. This award is a reflection of the collective efforts of everyone who has contributed to and continues to shape the work in our laboratory.” — Christopher Hunter

The Society also proudly recognizes Nancy C. Reich Marshall, Ph.D. (Stony Brook University) with the 2026 Honorary Lifetime Membership Award, and Dusan Bogunovic, Ph.D. (Columbia University) with the 2026 Howard A. Young Distinguished Service Award.
